Low Cost Easter Days Out with Kids - £

Okay, so here goes part two of the four part saga, that I write sat on the sofa very hurriedly before the other 3 children wake up like Oliver has done.

These activities are either super low cost or really good value for money and that’s something that’s really important for us as parents to four young people. As you can imagine the costs build up very quickly when you’re a family of 6. Here we go…

Bury & Ramsbottom Swimming Pools

Perfect as a cool down activity in this weather or if the weather goes on the turn and you want to get inside.
Perfect as a cool down activity in this weather or if the weather goes on the turn and you want to get inside.

During the school holiday both Ramsbottom & Bury swimming pools have extra swim sessions running, perfect if you want to cool down in this heat OR if the weather goes on the turn. If you’ve got babies or little ones under 5 then the Fun Floats sessions at Bury would be better as tickets are available for all ages and range from £1-£4.80. This session features lots of music and fun floats for the kids to play with.

If you’ve got slightly older ones who want to burn off a bit of steam, then Ramsbottom pool have the aquarun again this half term. I’ve attached the image below. This looks super fun and the good news is you can either join in the fun (if that’s your thing), or you can watch from the side if your kids are confident swimmers.

Tickets for the Aquarun are £5 pp.

Diggle Scarecrow Trail

We did this a few years back and had a great day out!!!
We did this a few years back and had a great day out!!!

Heading a bit further afield next, but I do like a bit of an adventure, and for me this one is worth the trip. Head on over to Diggle this Easter for their fantastic scarecrow trail. This runs almost every single school holidays and has a different theme each time.

You can make this a really cheap day out as the trail maps are just £3 and there are so many lovely places to stop and take a picnic, especially next to the canal. The trail itself takes you on a lovely tour round this beautiful village as it’s the residents that make the scarecrows and either have them outside their houses or put them up in the park and play area in the woods.

If you wanted to treat the family, you’ll find lots of pubs nearby for lunch and of course the famous Grandpa Greenes for an ice cream. But be quick to grab your cone as the queue builds fast here. Parking can be a little tricky in the village but when I last visited they had opened up the school car park for people visiting the trail.

Bury Art Museum

Primary school age children have the chance to get creative at these low cost sessions.

This isn’t one I’ve ever tried but I’ve always meant to as friends have highly recommended the sessions. Bury Art Museum put on these low cost sessions every half term, and they are happening on Wednesdays this year. If you have a little one who loves to get creative then they’ll be sure to love these and at £3, it’s definitely worth trying out.

Heaton Park (Easter Egg Hunt)

I spent most of my childhood in Heaton Park so it will forever be a favourite with us.
I spent most of my childhood in Heaton Park so it will forever be a favourite with us.

If you’ve not been to Heaton Park are you even a Manc? I feel like everyone has been to Heaton Park and it’s not hard to see why. It’s HUGE and it has so many things to do. Mini farm, boating lake, picnic areas, Tree Top nets, cafes and super play areas, what’s not to love?!? They always have a funfair on over the school holidays, which is great if you’ve got older kids that want to burn off some energy but I always find these things quite expensive, especially as a big family and personally, I find them really overwhelming.

So if you’re after something a little more chilled out and little people friendly, Heaton Park are running a lovely Easter Egg hunt this year, priced at £4 per entry (includes Easter Egg I believe). Collect your trail map from The Stables cafe and off you go on your Easter themed quest.

The event is running from 18th - 21st April making it one of the later events.

The Circle, Bacup

The Circle, Bacup is an absolutely stunning hidden gem.
The Circle, Bacup is an absolutely stunning hidden gem.

Well I was listing this place for their Easter Party but then as I was searching for an image I also came across some free activities they were hosting which is even better!!! I came across this place 2 years ago when searching for a wedding venue and it absolutely did not disappoint. This stunning former church has been given a new lease of life by owner Freddie, and now serves up lots of delicious food, as well as hosting various community events from music events to circus shows. I also loved the fact that they have a mini bouncy castle and play area for the kids all year round.

I’ve attached below their Easter schedule which features several free events, as well as their Easter Party finale which is £6 per child. Children under 1 go free and party tickets include dancing, party games and magic show and a free mini face paint or temp tattoo.

Oswaldtwistle Mills

I’m loving the variety of activities at Oswaldtwistle Mills!!!

Again, another place I’ve not visited, but this popped up on my Facebook ads and I loved the variety of activities on offer. As well as lots of creative workshops such as slime making, sand art and DIY photo frames, they are also hosting an Easter Egg Hunt with mini farm animals that you can pet!!! Such a lovely idea for all ages. Tickets are around £6/£7 and can be purchased on the Eventbrite page I’ve linked.

Freight Island, Manchester Town Centre

The Depot Mayfield trail is running this week from Wednesday until Sunday.
The Depot Mayfield trail is running this week from Wednesday until Sunday.

Now Freight Island is on here for not one but 2 kids Easter Events and both are reasonably priced considering we’re in the centre of town. First up starting Wednesday 9th is the Easter Egg trail around Depot Mayfield. I’ve been to Freight Island before, but just for food with the kids so I’m interested to try these events out. And with the weather being good, why not head out into our city and hunt for eggs in the sunshine. Link for the tickets is below as pre booking a time slot is required:

I have to admit this Our Kids Social event at Freight Island looks mega!!!

Next up is an event at Freight Island hosted by Our Kids Social, which I think I’ve looked at in the past but it’s clashed with our plans. I’ve actually made plans this Good Friday to go to RHS Bridgewater but I might change to this if the weather isn’t going to be as good as this week, who knows. Just look at all these activities that are included in this event!!! There’s just so much going on and it looks like there something for all ages with Adventure Babies to Lego Club. I must admit I really, really want to go to this so I might rearrange our plans this week so that we can make it. Tickets can be purchased below:

Treehouse MCR

Perfect for ages 4+ this special screening of Peter Rabbit will include arts and crafts, followed by an Easter trail.

Whilst I was looking at the Freight Island events I also came across another event by Our Kids Social but this one is at Treehouse MCR. I’ve never heard of this place before but I’ve had a look and OMG it looks bloody amazing. I’ve attached a photo below but seriously check out the website and you’ll see what I mean. This event has been super popular and has already sold out the morning session so be quick if you fancy the afternoon session as tickets might go. Peter Rabbit, arts and crafts, Easter bunny trail in a gorgeous boutique cinema room…sounds lush to me!!!

So there you have it!!! Here’s my lower cost activities for Easter. I’ll be coming back at you tomorrow with some activities that cost that little bit more, but are still great value for families. Then we will look at the splurging out options.

Hope this helps gang!!! Happy Easter
